Supporting Those Who Served

John Bailey — Facilities Manager, London

At Envirotech, our work doesn't stop when we leave site.

Across the business, our colleagues give their time, experience and energy to causes that matter to them and the communities in which they live. Whether that's supporting local charities, coaching sports teams, volunteering with youth organisations or raising money for good causes, these are the stories that reflect who we are as people.

This month we'd like to introduce John Bailey, one of our Facilities Managers, whose commitment to the Royal British Legion has spanned many years.

John has led the Putney Poppy Appeal for six consecutive years, coordinating volunteers, businesses, schools and local organisations to raise funds that support serving members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families.

The role extends far beyond collecting donations. It involves months of planning, organising volunteer teams, managing collections, working alongside local businesses, councils and community groups, and coordinating the annual Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service. The event brings together veterans, cadets, youth organisations, civic leaders and members of the public in a shared act of remembrance.

Speaking about the role, John says:

"The Poppy Appeal has never been about me. It's about bringing people together to remember those who served and to ensure today's veterans continue to receive the support they deserve. If, along the way, we can encourage younger generations to understand why remembrance still matters, then we've achieved something worthwhile."

John believes many of the skills developed in facilities management transfer naturally into community volunteering.

"Planning, organisation, communication and solving problems in the moment are part of our day job. Volunteering simply gives us another opportunity to use those skills to make a positive difference."

As a certified B Corporation, Envirotech is committed to creating value beyond the workplace. That isn't achieved solely through environmental initiatives or corporate policies; it is demonstrated every day by colleagues who choose to support the communities around them.

John's work with the Royal British Legion is one example of the many ways our people make a difference outside their professional roles. Our People, Our Communities is about celebrating those stories.
